         Today electronica Shanghai 2024 draws to a close. We look back on a few exciting and fascinating days at the trade fair and are pleased to provide some insights and report on our successful appearance.

           electronica Shanghai is one of the largest and most important trade fairs for the electronics industry in Asia. Every year, leading companies and experts from all over the world gather there to present the latest technologies, products and trends. The fair offers a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience as well as for networking and business initiation. With over 1,650 exhibitors and more than 110,600 trade visitors from over 90 countries, electronica Shanghai is a key event for the electronics industry and an important driver of innovation and growth.

This enhances our quality control, production efficiency, and overall competitiveness. Our new Shanghai sales branch played a pivotal role in our success, as their participation helped us establish a strong foothold in the domestic market and gain a comprehensive understanding of our operations. One key takeaway from the trade show was the incredible pace of technological advancement within the industry, highlighting the importance of staying ahead in this rapidly evolving field.

         I am thrilled to share some significant news with you all! As of April 1, 2024, I have been taking on my new role as Chief Development Officer of the GSN Group of Companies. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of our organization.

         My field of activity will cover the responsibility for all new development projects on group level as well as the re-organisation of the groupwide sales structure, including the set-up of new sales entities in India and Shanghai.

      <title>OPENING OF NEW MANUFACTURING LOCATION AT GSN SHENZHEN - DREAMS AND GOALS</title>

         In a speech held by Frank Martin Püschel (CEO) during a visit to Shenzhen in November 2023, Frank ceremoniously opened a new production facility in front of the GSN family. 
          &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

         In his speech Frank talked about the reasoning behind this. Opening an own production facility in China was originally a dream of his father, Lutz Püschel, who did not dare to realize it back in the day. Frank explained that his dream started to build on his father's and went beyond simply setting up a production facility.  
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         In his book "Radical Change", Frank developed a solution, TRI-MONY, that offers a way to establish more harmony in the world, and is used at GSN to enable his dream.
          &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         "It is my dream for GSN that all of you are happy. That all of you are satisfied with the work, the payment, the see your child program and all other benefits that GSN is offering. It is my dream that we will grow further, so more and more people can join GSN. That more and more people can become members of the GSN family."
          &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         Frank emphasized that although this goal is his dream, it can only be achieved because it is, above all, the employees of GSN who make it possible.  
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         "You are the people who make these dreams come true".  
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         To emphasize this point, Frank pointed out the immense transformation of GSN in recent years and, although GSN, like everyone else in the world, has suffered from Covid, GSN has emerged from this crisis stronger and growing faster than ever before, due to the employees at GSN working diligently and hard.
          &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         In conclusion, GSN is growing and is happy to welcome this new location and its employees as part of the GSN family!

          INFLATION

         China is rather independent from price changes at international markets for raw materials. As China is our major production location, GSN‘s risk towards inflation is lower than in the Western part of the world. To further mitigate the risk of rising costs, we will move our level of automation even closer to 100% in 2023.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         ENERGY COSTS
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         GSN‘s costs for energy in China have remained stable during 2021 and 2022. We expect the same for 2023 and rate this risk as low.

         POLITICAL RISKS

           Since 2016, the award has been presented annually by the Bertelsmann Foundation together with the German Chamber of Commerce in China to recognize outstanding social commitment by German companies in China. Support comes from the diplomatic representation of the Federal Republic of Germany in China and the Legal Center for NGOs (“ForNGO”).
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           A total of 74 projects applied in 2021. Of these, 19 made it onto the shortlist, divided into the following five categories: Education, Environmental Protection, Diversity &amp;amp; Inclusion, Sustainable Supply Chains and Jury Selection as a special category.

           In the special category Jury Selection, GSN competed with the "See Your Child Program" and made it among the four finalists. The "See Your Child Program" was established at our headquarters in Shenzhen in 2015 as part of our RCC (Radical Corporate Citizenship) strategy. This means that 1/3 of the company's profits are reinvested back into society.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Migrant work is sad everyday life in China and families, parents and children alike, suffer as a result. Many workers are forced to leave their children with their grandparents, in orphanages or even on their own while they seek work in the big industrial cities to support their families. Under normal circumstances, parents and children see each other for a maximum of one week per year.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Studies show that the life situation of the so-called "left behind children" often leads to alienation, reduced self-esteem and an increased rate of suicide and crime (compared to children who live with their parents). It is also a very stressful situation for the parents.
           &#xD;

           In addition to the actual award gala, "More than a Market" primarily serves to promote exchange, networking and the promotion of eco-social projects. In that regard alone, it's an honor to have been a part of it again.

         The hike was challenging, with steep inclines and rugged terrain, but the team was determined to push themselves to the limit. The stunning scenery and fresh air motivated them to keep going. During the hike, the employees bonded and got to know each other better. Many employees who had previously worked in different departments had the opportunity to interact and share their experiences. The night was filled with laughter, music, and stories at a magnificant dinner.

         On the second day, the team participated in team building activities. The activities were designed to promote teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The team was divided into smaller groups, and each group was given a task to complete. The employees worked together, providing support and encouragement to one another. The activities were challenging but fun, and the team members learned a lot about each other's strengths and weaknesses.

         In times when the climate crisis is forcing us to rethink and many users are demanding sustainable and durable technology, manufacturers and with them the entire value chain are facing major challenges.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         What does sustainability mean in the fast-moving, constantly overtaking technology sector? Which screws can be turned to make products robust and resistant, but at the same time flexible enough not to lose touch with technical innovations?
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          Using the smartphone as an example, this question is the focus of the INaS 2.0 workshop series. The Innovation Association for Sustainable Smartphones (INaS) is part of the CSM (Center for Sustainability Management) at Leuphana University Lüneburg and has set itself the goal of developing sustainable business models based on modular product design for smartphones. To this end, actors from all areas of the value chain are invited to network, exchange ideas and jointly find and promote possible solutions.
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          2015-2018 have 20 participants and partner institutes took part in INaS 1.0. The number has since grown to 28 and we are proud to have been part of the INaS 2.0 network since the beginning of 2020. In January 2020, the first workshop dealt with the technical basics of modular product design and the associated opportunities and challenges for companies. At the second workshop in October 2020, this time via video conference due to corona, the focus was on the development of customer-centric services. Both aspects have to go hand in hand in order to guarantee and consolidate the sustainable success of a modular product design. Every stage of the value chain is required, from the supplier of the individual parts to the provider, right through to recovery and recycling. Through the exchange with the other actors, it quickly became clear how interdependent the individual stages are and how closely interlinked one has to approach such a project in order to achieve a meaningful and practicable result.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          Above all, the collaboration within the framework of the workshop, detached from everyday work, was very creative and profitable. In the conversation, all sides were able to benefit from the knowledge and input of the other participants. From this group creative and innovative ideas were developed. Not all of them are suitable for implementation, while others are worth more intensive consideration and further development.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          With the aim of a circular economy in mind, modular product designs must be promoted at the first level. These provide the basis for technological update options, simplified repairs and recycling. Here, too, it helps to take into account experience from previous product series for the design process. At the same time, providers must offer customers the appropriate services. Customer loyalty, attractive and simple service offers, but possibly also completely new business models.

We meet all official and health policy requirements, have installed air filters, integrated safety zones, created a hygiene concept and created home office options. Disinfectants and masks are provided for our staff.

      <title>NEW COMPANY LOCATION GSN EUROPE</title>

         Finally, our company move is complete and we have successfully arrived at our "New Company Home". There is still a lot to do, a few boxes to unpack and the renovation work is not yet complete. But we are happy to have settled in and already feel completely at home.

&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  
         The previous office and warehouse rooms were functional, but not a real company home for a long time. When the opportunity arose to purchase an old property, the idea for the move was quickly born. GSN is more than just an employer, GSN means community and being part of a family. So, it was clear that such a far-reaching decision as the relocation of the company premises had to be discussed and decided within the team. Indeed, the decision was not difficult and the "New Company Home" project was approved by all.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          Before we could move in, however, a few things had to be done. We deliberately chose an old building that we preferred to use in the spirit of sustainability, give it an energy-efficient make-over and thus a second life. Why not take recycling and reuse to a grander scale?
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          Our new home is a former restaurant with attached barn and a spacious premise, an old building with a lot of potential and, above all, a lot of flair. When renovating, it was clear from the start that the charm of the old building should be preserved, paired with a modern touch and, above all, sustainable energetic renovation. The result is a high-quality and comfortable office that gives our GSN-family a feeling of being home at work.
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  
         The offices are bright and have something homely about them, giving each department enough space and yet promoting a sense of community and close cooperation. The new common rooms, the cosy and fully equipped staff kitchen and the beautiful Mediterranean outdoor area are also very inviting and support the practised work-life balance. Even the possibility to do sports - whether running in the nearby forest or the vineyards, cycling or a round of boules in the courtyard - is given and with two bathrooms with showers there are really no excuses.motivated about the future.
         &#xD;

          What a difference compared to our previous company location. From the noisy, industrial and functional surroundings of Mannheim's industrial area, we have landed here in Bad Duerkheim / Leistadt in a region where others spend their holidays. The Palatinate is not called the Tuscany of Germany for nothing and with its mild climate, the green vineyards, the Palatinate Forest and the cosy villages it offers a wonderful base for living and working.
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  
         At the same time, we are still well connected to the infrastructure here, can serve clients worldwide from our warehouse and, conversely, are always happy to welcome visitors here.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          At the same time, we are aware of what our location means for the village. Every business in a smaller community is an important economic factor - whether through taxes, job creation for local employees or craftsmen, or general strengthening of the location. In addition, we have great plans for the future. After all, until a few years ago, our building was the central restaurant of the village. Currently, there is not much here and the residents are drawn to the nearby city. How nice it would be to revive this part. Not only our employees but the whole village community could benefit from a restaurant or a bakery with an attached shop. The possibilities are there and we will continue to pursue them.
         &#xD;

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

         For now, however, it is time to arrive and settle in. We look forward to our work here and are excited and motivated about the future.

Migrant workers live in a vicious social cycle, and a systemic way to escape has not existed to date.

         GSN has broken up this vicious social cycle with TRI-MONY: its radical eco-social business concept. One systemic element of this concept entails a company’s profit being divided into three equal parts. One-third is still reserved for the shareholder or company owner as a personal dividend. The other two-thirds are strictly designated to finance the company's radical commitment to corporate social responsibility (= activities inside the company) and corporate citizenship (= activities in society).

          The concept of a living wage was implemented at GSN Shenzhen in late 2018. Since then, migrant workers at GSN have been earning a living wage. Based on 40 working hours per week, this living wage is high enough to let migrant workers participate in the life of society in a dignified way. This alone reduces worker fatigue and exhaustion and increases their motivation. Surprisingly, GSN even experienced an increase in work efficiency that more than offset the additional costs incurred by the living wage. This exceeded the management’s expectation and produced a status quo at which social investment creates additional efficiency for the company. In a nutshell: The company’s investment ultimately incurs no additional cost, a fantastic win-win situation.

          RADICAL CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP

          One activity within GSN’s CC program is The See your Child program, which is described here: https://gsn.cn.com/what-we-do-for-the-community. Its effect is a better social prognosis for the children of migrant workers as well as much higher motivation for migrant workers to work at GSN and to increase GSN’s competitiveness. As a result, GSN staff fluctuation has decreased to almost zero, keeping valuable expertise within the company.

          THE IMPACT: A MINOR MIRACLE

          More motivated and relaxed thanks to a new two-day weekend and work-free evenings during the week, migrant workers at GSN embarked upon different kinds of self-education, partially supported by GSN. After a few years, this voluntary investment in their self-education potentially raises their level of professional qualification and enables migrant workers to achieve better career opportunities, whether in their hometowns or at GSN. Consequently, migrant workers at GSN climb the social ladder and have the chance to live with their children and families again.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          Miraculously, the TRI-MONY systemic eco-social business concept and its implementation at GSN are breaking up the vicious social cycle faced by migrant workers. We invite everyone to copy this fantastic system and willingly exchange information with other stakeholders.

Out of more than 100 applications this year, presenting innovative and inspiring CSR projects, GSN's Living Wage project was among the 20 finalists, finishing second in the category “Small Enterprises (1-500 employees in China)”.

         GSN Electronics (Shenzhen) introduced a Living Wage system in October 2018 that provides all employees with a fair opportunity to earn a monthly Living Wage without overtime - during a regular 5-day work week of 40 hours. GSN hereby follows the eco-social business concept TRI-MONY by company founder Frank Martin Pueschel, striving for a Triple Economic Harmony. The objective is to transform monetary profit into social benefits to the maximum reasonable extent.

         Global value chains have created many opportunities and many problems. On the one hand, off-shoring production to countries where labour is cheaper while retaining research and design in high income countries really did produce an opening for developing countries to grow an industrial base.

         China is the most impressive example of this effect and has by now moved up the value chain a good deal. On the other hand, if labour cost is one of the chief criteria, the international division of labour runs a risk of permanently depressing wages in low income countries, even to the point where a regular income is not enough to live on. The challenge is to balance the different aspects of international labour division in such a way that everybody gets a fair share out of it.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         GSN Electronics (Shenzhen) has therefore adopted, a Living Wage scheme which provides not only skilled office staff but also mostly unskilled assembly workers with a fair opportunity to earn a regular monthly Living Wage of at least RMB 3,600 without any overtime work – during a regular 5-day work week of 40 hours with 2 full days rest on the weekend.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         The GSN Living Wage refers to the Living Wage report for urban Shenzhen estimated by the Global Living Wage Coalition. As a result, GSN employees in Shenzhen receive a number of benefits that are, sadly, not the norm. These include a Living Wage, full social insurance including a housing allowance, continuous training, regular working hours, fully compensated overtime and an overtime maximum of 9 hours per week. 15 days of paid annual leave are also a part of the package, as are an additional 10 days of paid annual “See Your Child” leave for migrant workers who left their child behind in their hometown. As a result, workers at GSN appear to be happier, work better in teams, are more focused and more productive at work and are loyal to the comany. Worker retention,a perennial problem in China, is not an issue at GSN.

           We have been breaking new ground in our approach to this since late 2012.

         To begin with, our manufacturie  was developed so as to comply with all legal requirements (which is not the norm in China) and to guarantee decent wages for the employees in our factory. We are guided by the concept of “living wage” – which basically refers to an income that allows employees to make a decent living already within a 40 hours work week without having to work additional overtime. According to ILO (International labour organisation) up to 60 hours weekly working time in total are acceptable. However in China companies across all industries greatly exceed this number of hours, some even with exploitive wages and inhumane working conditions.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         GSN is proud to be a first-mover with its concept of social manufacture, especially because better working conditions generate higher labour costs at first. However, these higher costs are more than compensated for by taking two different approaches, which ultimately increase and sustain our overall competitiveness.

         Firstly, a substantial part of the company's dividend is made available for reinvestment into social innovations like the living wage. Secondly, the flexible implementation of automated machines into the manufacturing process leads to an ever increasing number of machines taking over specific work sequences from the human operator. Thus robotics helps to reduce the performance pressure on manufacturing staff.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         The general approach so far, however, has been to build a fully automatic machine for each product. Given the rapid developments in robotics, it will soon be possible to adapt just a few robots that can be programmed in different ways to reliably perform several work sequences up to a moderate level of complexity, regardless of the product concerned.
         &#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  
         As a result, more and more manual operations will be performed by programmed automatic machines. For instance, GSN uses adaptive automatic machines for the latest generation of connectors with a 1.00 mm pitch (between cable and PCB). Adapting them to different numbers of poles is so cost-efficient that they are economical to use even in medium quantities. In our view, the combination of a high degree of automation and decent wages for our employees in China is the strategy of choice in order to meet the financial and social challenges of the future in the most inspiring way.

         For applications where limited space is an issue there is a new solution, Mini Spring Pins are an ideal choice if a flat design is required, a mating connector should be avoided or if modularity of the end-product is required.

         The connector is pushed directly onto contact pads on the PC board. We build these mostly customized connectors with a minimum pin spacing of 0.3mm (SMT) and 0.4mm (THT).

         Safe insertion is provided by a new locking-catch technology. The connector closes only after the cable has been inserted correctly. A clicking sound confirms that locking has been completed correctly.
